5, 2004: Selling a record
3207 cars in September 2004, the highest in a
month since its inception, General Motors India
recorded over 68.5 percent growth in the first
nine months of 2004 even as the global auto major
surged to the leadership position in Entry "D"
Luxury sedan segment with the sale of 1062 units
of the popular Chevrolet Optra.
With nearly two thirds more sales in September
2004 alone as compared to 2001 cars in the same
month last year, the company registered a 60.27
percent growth in monthly sales. Besides 1062
units of Chevrolet Optra, it sold 1370 units of
Chevrolet Tavera, and 768 units of Opel Corsa.
In the first three quarters of 2004, the company
sold a total of 18517 cars as against 10987 in
the same period last year to record a 68.54 percent
growth in YTD sales. These included 7344 Chevy
Optras in Entry "D" Luxury sedan segment,
6932 Opel Corsas and 4072 units of the recently
launched new-generation premium multi-utility
vehicle (MUV) Chevrolet Tavera, branded as the
Comfortable Family Car.

the growing popularity of the Chevrolet brand
in India. Enthused by its grand success in the
Indian market, GM plans to bring some more new
and exciting Chevrolet products specifically designed
for India. We will continue to make world class
vehicles in India to give the Indian consumer
the best vehicles in a wider range," said

General Motors India.
GM India is a wholly owned subsidiary of General
Motors Corporation. Besides the Chevrolet Tavera
and Optra, GM India manufactures the Opel Corsa,
Corsa Sail and Swing at its facility in Halol,
Gujarat. GM India also sells the imported Opel
Vectra in addition to the Chevrolet Forester.
