GM India Records 119% Growth in October

Global Auto Major Ramps Up Production to Meet Demand for Tavera
 

New Delhi, November 4, 2004: General Motors India has ramped up production of its new-generation premium multi-utility vehicle (MUV) Chevrolet Tavera, to reduce the waiting list of the "Comfortable Family Car" that sold 1418 units in October 2004 to contribute to a near 119 per cent growth.

Selling 2752 cars in October 2004 as against 1258 units in the same month last year, the company recorded a 118.76 growth in monthly sales even as the global auto major's sales between January and October this year reached 21269 as compared to 12245 in the first ten months of 2003, registering a 73.70 per cent growth in YTD sales.

Besides 1418 units of Chevrolet Tavera, the company sold 722 units of the popular Chevrolet Optra in Entry "D" Luxury sedan segment and 607 units of Opel Corsa in October. The YTD sales included 8066 Chevy Optras, 7539 Opel Corsas and 5490 units of the Tavera.

"The growing popularity of the Chevrolet and Opel brands in India has strengthened our resolve to introduce some more new and exciting products specifically designed for India. At the same time, we are ramping up production at our Halol facility to provide world class vehicles made in India to the discerning Indian consumer," said Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President- Corporate Affairs General Motors India.

GM India is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation. Besides the Chevrolet Tavera and Optra, GM India manufactures the Opel Corsa, Corsa Sail and Swing at its facility in Halol, Gujarat. GM India also sells the imported Opel Vectra in addition to the Chevrolet Forester.
